This Mothers Day celebrate the women in your life that have shown you what it means to be loved & cared for by reaching out and sharing a few kind or funny words, thoughts, & sentiments. After all, as Buddha says, “When words are both true and kind they can change our world”, or in this case, your Mothers.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MOTHER
What does it mean to BE a mother? The word “Mother”, as defined by Websters Dictionary, means “a female parent”, a woman in authority, religious context; Mother Teresa, or an “old or elderly woman”; Mother Hubbard. It can also mean source or origin; “mother of all inventions” or used in vulgar situations;
Being a Mom doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have given birth physically. This term can affectionately be applied to all nurturers, of both sexes. It can also apply to those who care for and nurture any living creature whether of the two-legged persuasion or the furry or feathered. Being a mother is a selfless act. It’s when you put someone’s needs and welfare before yourself, that is the true meaning of being a “mother”. At least it is for me.
Words have power. Giving the gift of words can have a lasting impact on those you give them to when said from the heart. Enjoy this compilation of quotes for Mothers and by Mothers. Whether you prefer the endearing and sentimental approach to Mothers Day or the humorous, this compilation will be sure to please. Let them inspire what you will be sharing with the Mothers in your life this Mothers Day.
THE SENTIMENTAL
The greatest advice I received from my own Mother when I gave birth to my daughter was this, “Enjoy every moment as they will never be repeated”. It is one that I share often and remind myself to this day almost 22 years later.
NEW MOTHER INSPIRATION
These quotes are special but are especially true for all the new mothers out there. It’s hard to remember the importance of your role as a mother when you are in the throws of new parenting, sleepless nights, diapers, feeding, and exhaustion. This job is the toughest one you will ever
MOTHERS STRENGTH & LOVE
“Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws”, by Barbara Kingsolver, is a quote that could not be more accurate. There is nothing that compares with the strength of a mothers love.
MOTHERHOOD LESSONS
The lessons we learn as mothers never end. Some can be life-changing, some can be humorous.
THE HUMOROUS
Nothing will carry you through motherhood more than laughter. Let’s face it, motherhood is the most difficult job in life. All the more reason to laugh about it. When you can laugh at yourself, the irony of your circumstance, or your moments, life is lighter. Hope these make you smile
No matter what kind of Mom you are, one thing is for certain:
May these quotes inspire you to verbalize your love to the Moms in your life, carry you through the difficult moments of being one, or just bring a smile to your face. Happy Mothers Day!

Thanks for sharing the quotes about motherhood. They all ring true, but I especially enjoyed the humorous ones. My two sons are now 45 and 48 years old, but they’ll always be my “babies’ and I treasure my memories of their childhoods (even the trying times).

Thank you, Stacey! Glad I could help 🙂
These are so precious! Looking back, I can see how I may have given my mom a near panic attack when I ran off to the military to help pay for college when she told me to “find a way” (she meant scholarships and grants)! 😅 I can understand now why she’s afraid to give me any instructions unless they are SUPER specific!
Oh geez, that would have panicked me as well, LOL!
Love all the sayings, perfect for Mothers Day!
What great quotes for moms! Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure, Tricia!
What a cute post! I remember feeling like a trip to the store by myself was a vacation. As much work as it has been, I absolutely love being a mother!
I love so many of these, like sitting in the rain to watch your child sit on the bench. So true!
Haha I like the full name one – my toddler does that to me all the time – MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY! These are wonderful sayings all around.
Motherhood is best appreciated daily for sure. The lil gifts make up the fast years for sure. They grow so fast and I find I want to go out of my way for my mom more now that I endure the ups and downs! Celebrating all moms is key and this is a great post.
What a great post! Thank you!
Your welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely and humorous too!
Gah, tears in my eyes. My kiddos are in that in-between sweet spot, where they are pretty independent, but they still like to be around me (11 and 9 years old). Love this stage!!! Thanks for these sweet quotes.
Enjoy every stage & you are most welcome!
THis is a great post. I am going to send this to my mom on mothers day!
Thank you, Lisa! I hope she enjoys it.
These are so awesome. I like this one: To the world, you are a mother but to the family, you are the world. Very nice!
The ones with such sentiment really got me as well.
These are so wonderful, and there is one for every situation. What a great compilation! I Love the Momster one 🙂 🙂 🙂
Me too! Thanks for stopping by!
What a sweet, sweet post! I’m taking off for the vacation of a lifetime tomorrow (Italy!) but also realizing I will not be with my mother or my kids on Mother’s Day! Some of your quotes made me quite sentimental for the days when my kids were little and so much more dependent on me. Ah, motherhood, it’s a wonderful experience, isn’t it? Thanks for writing this!
Thank you, Lori! I couldn’t agree more. Mother’s Day always brings me back to the “little” days. Thank you for the lovely comments and have a wonderful time in Italy!!!
