This versatile, moist pumpkin bread recipe is easy to make and filled with warming spices that bring with it the scent of fall.
Fall, the time of the harvest. The time of year when mother earth begins slowing, gearing toward her winter’s rest. It’s the time we begin to turn inward as well. As the days shorten and cool, winter’s promise visits nightly. We are drawn to warm hearths, a slower pace, and satisfying foods. The ultimate pumpkin bread recipe definitely fits the bill!

This pumpkin bread recipe brings back warm familial memories. The scent filled the house while it baked. Memories of childhood anticipation, waiting for that first warm bite to fill our mouths and senses. The thick piece slathered with as much butter as it could hold devoured with enthusiasm. And lots of memories.
The time my older brother “accidentally” sneezed over a freshly baked loaf just so he could call it his own, much to my chagrin 😊
This recipe has been in my family for more than 50 years, most likely further back if I could trace it. It is my pleasure to share it with you now.
Sharing Is Caring….
As I previously stated, this recipe is a quick and easy bake, using on one bowl. There is a printable recipe card below for your convenience. It also can easily be made into muffins. Add a bit of cream cheese frosting and top it off with a walnut, and you have the makings of an easily transportable snack!
WHAT’S NEEDED TO MAKE THIS EASY PUMPKIN BREAD
This recipe could not be easier to make. Most items can most likely be found in your pantry already. Although for convenience, I use canned organic pumpkin, for those who grow their own pumpkins, fresh pumpkin purée can easily be substituted!
EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO MAKE THIS MOIST PUMPKIN BREAD
Little equipment is needed to whip up this easy pumpkin bread recipe. You will need….

The ingredients are simple & ones hopefully you will already have available in your pantry…
- EGGS
- SAFFLOWER OR VEGETABLE OIL
- PUMPKIN PURÉE
- WATER
- FLOUR
- SUGAR
- SALT
- BAKING SODA

HOW TO MAKE THE ULTIMATE PUMPKIN BREAD
Begin with the wet ingredients; eggs, oil, pumpkin, and water. Beat until smooth.
Sift in the dry ingredients; flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. A quick note, I always add almost double the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg as is called for as we like it a bit more spicey. Stir until its well incorporated and there are no further lumps.
Grease and flour a large bread pan and add mixture to the pan. Whatever size pan you use, the mixture should fill 3/4 way full.
This recipe is very versatile. I’ve added raisins, about 1 cup, to this batch. You could always substitute or add cranberries, or walnuts if you like, or even chocolate chips!
Bake at 350° for 1 1/4 hour for large pan, or adjust the time for smaller pans. It’s done when the top cracks and a knife inserted comes out clean.
We enjoyed this loaf by adding homemade whipped cream cheese frosting. YUM!
This loaf is wonderful to serve at any Holiday party or gathering.
HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN BREAD MUFFINS
To transform this recipe into pumpkin bread muffins instead of bread, simply line your muffin tin with paper liners or alternatively, grease the pan using butter.
Fill each tin to about 3/4 way full. Bake at 350 F for approximately 35 to 40 minutes or until a knife comes clean when inserted into the center of the muffin.
Allow to cool completely prior to frosting if you choose or enjoy warm with a bit of added butter.
I hope you can try this recipe and savor the flavors as we traditionally do.
Tried making this easy & what we consider the ultimate pumpkin bread? Love to hear about it!
